What's New in APA PsycTests®
Learn about new fields and search features added to APA PsycTests that will increase ease of use and search accuracy
You spoke and we answered.
In response to feedback, we have enhanced the APA PsycTests database with several new features in a recent reload (AKA major update) of the database. This reload will make the database more effective and easier to use.
These are some of the new features we've developed for you on APA PsycTests.
New format
The 2019 reload involves a major change to the format of test records.
The previous format consisted of a Master Test Record and either a single or multiple Child Test Records. This has changed with the reload to streamline the product and increase usability.
There is now a single Test Record that includes basic information about the test, indexing information, and source citations of either APA PsycInfo or APA PsycExtra records where the test is used.
Additions to current fields
We have created an addition to the Test Type field, which indicates how the record relates to other records in the database.
Test Type now has four possible designations:
- Original
- Translation
- Revision
- Subtest
Source citations
With the new format, test records include a list of citations for those records where there are corresponding APA PsycInfo and APA PsycExtra records. These citations are present in a new field: Source Citation. Citations in the field are labeled development, review, or use, to indicate how the citation relates to the test described in the source.
Some test records will have multiple citations in the Source Citation field but only one of those citations will have been used to index the records. In these cases, there is a new Source Used field which indicates which citation was used to create the bulk of the indexed information.
Languages
The new field Language Present was created as a companion to the current Language Available field. Language Present indicates the language present in the source used to create the record. Language Available indicates the different languages in which the test is officially available.
Of note, these fields can but do not always contain the same data, and sometimes only one of the fields is present in a test record.
Language Present has been mapped back to all applicable records.
Methodology
The new Methodology field indicates specific psychometric analyses or specific methodologies in the test. You can filter searches for tests using this field, so you can view only those tests which have the psychometric analyses or methodologies you are interested in for your research.
Another new field, Factors/Subscales, indicates the different factors and/or subscales of a test.
Both Methodology and Factors/Subscales have been mapped back to applicable records.
We welcome your feedback. New features are often generated from suggestions that we receive directly from our customers.
