The Journal of Rural Mental Health is the official journal of the National Association for Rural Mental Health and is published by the Journals Program of the American Psychological Association.
The Journal of Rural Mental Health publishes peer-reviewed articles on rural mental health research, practice, and policy within the United States and internationally.
The journal is announcing a call for papers that focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on the delivery of tele-mental health (tele-MH) services for rural persons.
The current administration’s decision to expand the role of tele-MH in response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in many immediate changes in the delivery of tele-MH services.
The sudden and unexpected implementation of tele-MH services is requiring practitioners and organizations to identify challenges previously not encountered.
In response to COVID-19’s impact on rural communities, the journal is announcing a call for papers that focuses on the following topics:
- the rapid uptake of various technologies (e.g., telephone, videoconferencing) to administer tele-MH services and positive and negative experiences with these technologies;
- infrastructure challenges related to tele-MH services (e.g., unreliable internet connection);
- the conduct of remote supervision for students and trainees;
- perceptions of how common factors (e.g., empathy, task orientation) differ between in-person and remote environments;
- challenges to implementing tele-MH programs while adhering to HIPAA guidelines; and
- reimbursement issues for tele-MH providers.
This list of potential topics is not exhaustive. The major goal of this call for papers is for individuals and organizations to share their stories and experiences (both positive and negative) with Journal of Rural Mental Health readers who can use this information to inform the development and implementation of future tele-MH programs.
Submissions may use several formats, including brief and full-length reports of original research, program descriptions or “field reports,” and letters to the editor.
Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by experts in the field.
Rapid peer review and prompt editorial decisions will ensure that quality manuscripts are published in a timely manner and disseminated widely to inform additional research and policy making on COVID-19-related issues.
Through print and electronic access, articles published in Journal of Rural Mental Health are available to a global audience of over 3,000 institutions and 80 million potential readers.
