BEA Grants for Precollege and Undergraduate Teaching Conferences

APA’s Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) will award $10,000 in grants to support conferences on enhancing the quality of precollege and undergraduate education in psychology and advancing the teaching of psychology at the secondary, 2-year, or 4-year level. To qualify for funding, conferences must be directed by an APA member, associate, or affiliate, and meet the stated criteria.

Grant recipients may use the funds to offset travel expenses of selected conference participants, registration fees of conference participants, and speaker fees. Applicants may qualify for up to $1,000 during a given year, and applications for new as well as annual meetings are encouraged.

In 2026, BEA is particularly interested in receiving proposals that identify and address high priority emphases or themes. Proposals that address these high priority topics will receive special consideration during the review process. Accordingly, priority areas proposed for 2026 include conferences that:

• Focus on the dissemination and implementation of educational policy documents (e.g., National Standards for High School Psychology, IPI Student Learning Outcomes for Introductory Psychology, Principles for Quality Undergraduate Education in Psychology, or Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major)

• Offer programming aimed at improving the workforce readiness of psychology students 

• Bring faculty at community colleges and 4-year institutions within a defined region together to discuss methods of improving transfer pathways for psychology students 

• Involve psychology faculty members providing professional development opportunities to the high school teachers within their region 

• Emphasize the infusion of diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching 

• Offer programming aimed at mitigating teacher burnout 

• Provide support and resources for educators faced with threats to academic freedom

To be considered for funding, applications must meet the following criteria:

• The conference must advance the teaching of psychology at the secondary, 2-year, and/or 4-year level.
• The conference must be directed by an APA member, associate, or affiliate.
• The grant must be requested by an APA member, associate, or affiliate.
• The grant must be used to offset travel expenses of selected conference participants, registration fees of conference participants, and/or speaker fees.

Applicants who receive a BEA grant for a teaching conference must also provide a summary evaluation of the outcomes of their conference, such as participants’ conference satisfaction and goal attainment, by December 31.
