Are you a trauma psychologist and/or do you have expertise in multicultural psychology?

APA's Presidential Task Force on Culturally Informed Trauma Recovery Kits is creating informational video clips for the public and invites you to participate by sending in a submission.

What: Create a video that is less than five minutes highlighting culturally attuned self-help or community-based coping strategies for trauma survivors. If possible, the video should include you speaking but also provide some type of demonstration.  Make sure you are well-lit and have good sound quality. We welcome submissions from around the globe in all languages. In addition to diverse racial and ethnic groups, we are interested in how members of various faith communities can cope and heal in the aftermath of trauma.

We are looking for submissions on:

Coping strategies:

  • advocacy/activism
  • spiritual/religious coping
  • seeking help/survivor reaching out
  • dance and other expressive arts

Cultural considerations for identity groups:

  • Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African (MENA)
  • Asian
  • Black/African American
  • Buddhist
  • Christian
  • Disabilities
  • Hindu
  • Indigenous
  • Jewish
  • Latina/o/x/e
  • LGBTQIA+ Nonbinary of Color
  • Muslim
  • Refugees and immigrants

If you have other ideas, please email APA President Dr. Thema Bryant before creating the submission.

Why: Many people who have faced trauma are overwhelmed. The majority of trauma kits currently available do not attend to culture. Dr. Bryant would like to disseminate psychological science in service to people from all cultures, including those who have historically been underserved, and those who have had to leave their homes. We want this tool kit to be culturally attuned.

All video submissions must be sent via the online formopens in new window.

Who: Whether you are a psychologist, in a related discipline or a psychology graduate student, we welcome your submission. You should have experience serving the population the video is focused on. Priority will be given to those who create videos on populations of which they are a part.

How: After your submission is received, the task force will evaluate the submission for both accuracy of content, helpfulness of material presented, and quality of the video to determine which videos will be included in the online kit. You and your team will be acknowledged as the producer of your film on our toolkit's website. You may also include your credit at the end of your video.

Thank you for being a part of the solution.  Let's Thrive!

If you have questions, email Dr. Thema Bryant at tbryant@apaboard.org. Please put "Video Submission" in the subject line.
