APA has identified rural health as a priority and has developed the APA Committee on Rural Health (CRH). The objective of the CRH is to ensure that the behavioral health care needs of rural and frontier Americans are met. Through establishing the CRH, APA has committed resources to addressing the behavioral health care needs of individuals residing in rural and frontier areas.
The CRH advocates for equitable access to high-quality psychological and behavioral health care for rural communities. Recognizing that rurality is both a social and geographical location, the CRH seeks strategies to increase the number of culturally competent providers available to meet rural behavioral health care needs. In addition, the CRH seeks to identify and address the challenges unique to rural providers.
The CRH welcomes requests for letters of support, comment, or media interviews when the request is directly aligned with the CRH’s purpose of ensuring that the behavioral health care needs of individuals residing in rural and frontier areas are met. Requests will be fulfilled based on availability and discretion of the committee. Please get in touch with the CRH staff liaison with your request.
