The following is an interactive data tool on the workforce capacity and cultural responsiveness for health service psychologists based on data collected from APA’s 2021 Survey of Health Service Psychologists. Users can explore the characteristics of health service psychologists providing services to diverse population groups.

All data are from the APA’s 2021 Survey of Health Service Psychologists (April 2021, N = 842). The survey included doctoral-level licensed psychologists in the United States who provide direct client or patient care.

Respondents were asked about the frequency at which they provided services to diverse population groups: never, rarely, occasionally, frequently, very frequently. Those responded frequently or very frequently to each population group were coded as psychologists frequently providing services to the population group.

Workforce capacity was examined through respondents’ reaction to the pandemic as well as practice plans. On reaction to the pandemic, respondents were asked about how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted how much they work: working more than I did before the pandemic, working the same amount as I did before the pandemic, and working less than I did before the pandemic. On practice plans, respondents were asked about their plans for the next 12 months regarding direct client or patient care: continue as I am, decrease hours, increase hours, or other.
