Understanding Nonsuicidal Self-Injury and Predictive Factors for Suicide
Practice, Research & Resources With McLean Hospital
May 2024
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10–14 and 20–34. NSSI—defined as deliberate destruction of one’s body without intent to die—is an increasing problem related to but distinct from suicide.
In this presentation, Dickstein and Batejan review the scope of the separate but related problems of youth suicide and NSSI. They explore ways in which brain/behavior mechanisms can ultimately improve how we diagnose, treat, and prevent youth suicide and NSSI.
