In conjunction with the Board of Directors subgroup on master's training and with funding from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Minority Fellowship Program hosted the Summit on Master's Training in Psychological Practice, Dec. 2-4, 2016, at APA headquarters.
More than 30 people from key stakeholder organizations discussed whether APA should embrace psychological practice at the master's level — an issue that has been discussed without resolution for 65 years — and develop a roadmap for the future. The group reached consensus to embrace a distinct master's level training, accreditation and practice while affirming the doctorate as the entry level for a psychologist. Information from the Summit will be made available online in 2017.
