Obesity Management Through Health Behavior Change
Health Behavior
November 2023
In the U.S., 40% of adults and almost 20% of youth are living with obesity. Obesity increases the risk for chronic conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Behavioral interventions that emphasize healthy eating, physical activity, and implementation of behavioral strategies are considered foundational for the treatment of obesity. The purpose of this webinar is to review: a) the prevalence of obesity in the U.S.; b) role of social determinants of health in obesity-related disparities; c) behavioral treatment for obesity, including in the context of pharmacological and surgical treatment; d) limitations of obesity metrics and weight stigma; and e) future directions.
